Why am I having stringy, gooey blood coming out during period?

I have had just gooey blood come out in previous periods for about 8 months now, but now it's really long stringy, gooey strands of blood! Is this normal or what? I am currently taking ortho-tri-cycoline lo birth control and sexually active. I've had my period for 4 years. Serious answeres please.
