I'm giving a large childs b-day party in sloppy Spring, is it rude to ask shoe removal and...?

It's not rude in canada and other places (particularly north). Some people are freaked out by having to take off their shoes. I bet kids aren't though. If you're giving them slippers, I think you're golden.
